Midtown Surgical Associates will match the skills and personality of our assistants with the surgeon and the procedure.

Scope of practice for the Surgical Assistant:

• Communicating with other health care providers regarding the patient plan of care
• Assists Anesthesiologist when applicable
• Assists with patient positioning, skin preparation and draping
• Cauterizes, clamps or ties vessels to control blood loss
• Handling and/or cutting of tissue
• Has knowledge of normal/abnormal anatomy
• Possesses ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate patients’ needs and needs of the surgical team
• Assures that the proper supplies, instruments and equipment are available for procedures
• Assists in closing incisions, cleans and dresses wounds
• Provides the best possible exposure by retracting tissue or maintaining the field of vision as in laparoscopy
• Assists the surgeon in other duties or procedures incidental to the surgical procedure as deemed necessary and directed by the surgeon
• Assists in safe delivery of the patient to the recovery room
